Some names are created for businesses. Others are invented for websites, products, or social media. HALFMOSTSIRE is different.
Long before HALFMOSTSIRE.COM became a website, HALFMOSTSIRE began as a personal philosophy—a collection of principles intended to guide how I live, make decisions, pursue my dreams, relate to others, and continue becoming a better version of myself.
Its story goes back more than a decade.
The Beginning: September 6, 2013
The documented story of HALFMOSTSIRE dates to September 6, 2013, when I published a blog post entitled “What is HALFMOSTSIRE?”
In that original reflection, I explained that the idea was conceived while I was in the midst of meditation and reflection.
At the time, I was thinking about something much bigger than creating a name. I wanted to live life to the fullest. I had dreams and goals I wanted to accomplish, but I also recognized that achievement alone was not enough. A meaningful life needed principles—values that could guide my actions, decisions, relationships, and aspirations.
Out of that reflection came a word: HALFMOSTSIRE.
It was a word I formed by bringing together twelve qualities and virtues that represented the kind of life I wanted to pursue.
What Does HALFMOSTSIRE Mean?
Each letter represents a principle. Together, they form the values at the heart of HALFMOSTSIRE.
Remain grounded regardless of what we accomplish, and stay willing to learn.
Move forward, participate, create, learn, and turn aspirations into action.
Give meaning to what we accomplish through care for self, others, work, and community.
Continue through uncertainty, even when the outcome of our efforts cannot yet be seen.
Seek balance, sound judgment, and self-discipline in the way we live.
Give goals structure, organization, and direction rather than allowing confusion to lead.
Create room for reflection, listening, understanding, and examining our own thoughts.
Build strong relationships through dependable and consistent actions.
Let truth and genuine intention guide our words and actions.
Remain honest and do what is right, including when nobody is watching.
Accept our duties and recognize that our choices have consequences for ourselves and others.
Keep going through difficulty, disappointment, change, and the long journey toward our goals.
More Than an Acronym
For me, HALFMOSTSIRE was never intended to be merely a clever arrangement of letters. The individual virtues are interconnected.
Humility reminds us that we still have much to learn. Being active turns aspirations into action. Love gives those actions meaning. Faith helps us continue through uncertainty. Moderation provides balance, while order gives our efforts direction.
Silence gives us opportunities to reflect. Trust strengthens our relationships. Sincerity makes those relationships genuine. Integrity guides our decisions. Responsibility reminds us that our choices affect others. And endurance allows us to continue when the journey becomes difficult.
These principles do not describe a perfect person. They describe qualities worth continually working toward.
HALFMOSTSIRE is not about claiming that we already possess every virtue perfectly. It is about having principles that remind us of the person we aspire to become.
2023: HALFMOSTSIRE Expressed Through Poetry
Nearly ten years after the original 2013 reflection, HALFMOSTSIRE took another form. On March 4, 2023, its philosophy was expressed through a poem:
HALFMOSTSIRE
HALFMOSTSIRE, a word with a tale,
Of virtues and traits, we can unveil,
Each letter standing for what we aspire,
To be our best selves, and never tire.
H for Humility, a quality so rare,
Makes us grounded, our heads we don't bear,
A for Active, we must stay in motion,
For only then can we create our notion.
L for Love, the essence of life,
For self and others, it removes all strife,
F for Faith, that keeps us going,
Even when the winds of change are blowing.
M for Moderation, a middle path to take,
In all we do, for balance we must make,
O for Order, a method to the madness,
A systematic way, to avoid all sadness.
S for Silence, a moment to reflect,
In solitude, our thoughts to perfect,
T for Trust, the cornerstone of all,
A bond so strong, it will never fall.
S for Sincerity, a quality of the heart,
Where truth reigns supreme, right from the start,
I for Integrity, a value so true,
To be honest and just, in all we do.
R for Responsibility, a duty to fulfill,
To ourselves and others, in all our skill,
E for Endurance, to keep us strong,
And persist, even when the journey is long.
HALFMOSTSIRE, a word so profound,
With each virtue and trait, we can astound,
May we embody them, day after day,
And make our lives, a virtuous array.
The poem gave a new voice to an idea that had already existed for a decade. The philosophy remained the same, but its expression continued to evolve.
From 2013 to 2026
Looking back, the development of HALFMOSTSIRE can now be seen through three important stages.
A Philosophy
HALFMOSTSIRE begins as a personal philosophy built around twelve guiding virtues and is documented through the original blog.
A Reflection in Poetry
Ten years later, the principles behind the word are expressed through poetry, giving each virtue a reflection about life and character.
A Digital Platform
Thirteen years after the original article, HALFMOSTSIRE.COM gives the name a new home and a broader purpose.
What began as a personal philosophy can now help shape a platform centered on education, learning resources, innovation, technology, personal development, entrepreneurship, and practical solutions.
The platform may have changed. The technology has certainly changed. But the values behind the name remain.
HALFMOSTSIRE and Education
My journey as an educator has also influenced what HALFMOSTSIRE has become.
Education is not simply the transfer of information from a teacher to a learner. It involves developing curiosity, confidence, responsibility, perseverance, and character. In many ways, those ideas connect naturally with the original HALFMOSTSIRE principles.
That is one reason education has become such an important part of the modern HALFMOSTSIRE.
The Meaning of HALFMOSTSIRE Today
Today, HALFMOSTSIRE represents both where I came from and where I am going.
It connects reflection with action. Values with innovation. Education with opportunity. Experience with continuous learning. Personal growth with service to others.
HALFMOSTSIRE.COM may contain educational resources, articles, ideas, technology, services, and future projects, but behind all of them should remain the principles that gave the name its meaning in the first place.
The website is therefore not the beginning of HALFMOSTSIRE. It is another chapter in its story.
A Philosophy That Continues
More than thirteen years after the original reflection, I still believe that meaningful progress requires more than ambition. We need principles to guide that ambition.
There will always be new goals to pursue, new technologies to explore, new things to learn, new people to serve, and new challenges to overcome. HALFMOSTSIRE reminds me that while our circumstances may change, the values guiding our journey can remain.

Move Forward and Live LIFE to the Fullest.
That was part of the vision behind HALFMOSTSIRE in 2013. It remains part of the journey in 2026.
